Our Story

“Some Day”

-This has been the mantra for Shannon and Elaine through more than two decades of life together.

When discussing future plans, we would talk about wishes, dreams, and goals. As we hoped for these things, we would always close our conversation with “someday”, not to be confused with “We’ll see….” which tends to mean probably not. “Someday” means these things WILL happen.

We met online in 1999, in person in 2000 and Shannon moved to Raleigh in 2002.
As we progressed through the years, we always created new “Somedays.”

“Someday we will buy a house”.
Check – December 2003
A home with cedar siding as Shannon always dreamed of.

“Someday we will have a camper.”
Check – 2003 with many more after that first one, thank goodness because that one was rough.

“Someday we will buy a boat.” Check – 2005 with many more throughout the years.

These “Someday” wishes were not merely “things” we wanted but rather they would become our memory makers.

We were both lovingly accepted into each other’s families, and Danny and Shannon became great friends. In Shannon, Danny not only found a great friend and confidant, but he now had a new favorite aunt/mother figure.

We shared many family vacations with Elaine’s family enjoying the beach, huge family meals, lots of conversation and laughter.

There were many fun times with Shannon’s family, some in the very mountains we will marry in, and close to where Shannon’s grandmother, “Nanny” grew up.
Nanny lived with us for the last 3 years of her life. As difficult as it was at times, we never regretted our decision to care for her in her final days. There were so many special moments.

We have had many good times: beach trips, mountain trips, boating, camping, sledding, holidays, and many more.

But certainly, the most significant “Someday” we wished for, was a time when we could focus on our relationship and finally get married. That day to marry has come, and we are looking forward to sharing it with our families and dear friends.

We are not sure what our next “Someday” wish will be, but surely there will be more, and we look forward to making those “Somedays” happen.
